This see-saw from Emotional Agility by Susan David is interesting.
If you get these two in balance, competence and challenge, you will feel energised.
If the challenge outweighs your competence, you will feel stressed, anxious and potentially overwhelmed.
If the challenge is less than the level of your competence it will be boring for you.
If you want to be energised to just the right amount – get these two things in balance.
This is the same as Flow, and useful to think about. This is the reason I love reading and learning – I’m building my competence for whatever challenge comes up.
I’m curious about creating challenges that push people to greater levels of competence in both their leadership and physical fitness.
